Accommodation

Chris and Annettie have to advise that Ulisa Bay Lodge has been sold to new owners who have changed the name to Ulisa Bay Resort; it is still a wonderful place to stay and many of the staff have been retained. Travor, who some years ago managed UBL, is the new manager for UBR and we believe that the lodge will go forward from strength to strength.

Meanwhile Annettie and Chris have moved to Mzuzu Town in the North of Malawi where we are planning to open a restaurant and a pottery later in 2026. For technical reasons we will not change much of the website until we have opened the new business, but please be aware that the details, etc. as well as some of the pictures are out-of-date. We are advised that the website for Ulisa Bay Resort is is in progress and will soon be on-line.

Ulisa Bay Lodge

Ulisa Bay Lodge

WELCOME TO LIKOMA ISLAND

Ulisa Bay Lodge and Pottery is a sanctuary for the explorers of the world. The lodge itself is a collection of chalets set around Ulisa Bay, all with stunning views over the lake and arguably one of the best sunsets in Africa. The Pottery has unique pottery made by Chris.

The lodge is owned by Chris and Annettie, and managed by Joy and her friendly staff who will greet you with a warm welcome and look after you throughout your stay. They will be able to recommend some incredible things to do while you are on the island including making your own pottery or decorating pots already made.

GROWING OUR OWN

We are extremely proud to grow a huge variety of our own fruit and vegetables in a walled (goat-proof!) permaculture garden. Everything we grow is used in our kitchen and lovingly prepared into a unique range of dishes served at our restaurant.

FOOD & DRINK

The Bar and Restaurant at Ulisa Bay occupy a remarkable spot atop a rocky outcrop with a deck looking out over the bay and Lake Malawi, a perfect spot for sundowners.

The bar attracts an amazing local crowd from Ulisa Village and around Likoma Island, especially at the weekends. It's the perfect place to get to know the Likoma islanders in a very relaxed atmosphere. It's a place where locals and travellers meet to swap stories and make lifelong friendships.

The restaurant uses mostly local produce either grown ourselves in the walled garden or traded with fisherman and local islanders. Tasty food can be ordered for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the menu is ever evolving. The focus is on using the freshest local ingredients to create simple yet delicious dishes.
